ACT expands vaccination scope.
Pharmacists in the ACT will be authorised to administer the MMR vaccine and also provide influenza vaccinations to pregnant women and children age 10 years and older, under provisions to be announced today.
The Territory Government's move to reduce age limits on pharmacist-administered flu vaccines has been welcomed by the Pharmacy Guild of Australia.Â
Guild ACT Branch President, Simon Blacker, described the decision as "timely" given concerns over the potential for this year's flu season to coincide with the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
âIt is a positive and timely step ahead of what threatens to be another bad season for influenza,â he said.
âWith the public health focus squarely on COVID-19, it is very important that as many people as possible in the ACT are protected against contracting influenza so that they are fit and healthy as we strive to minimise the impact of COVID-19."
