Government launches medicines safety research grants.

The Federal Government will invest $25 million into research to boost quality, safety and effective use of medicines and pharmacist-led interventions.

Federal Health Minister, Greg Hunt, has announced the establishment of the Quality, Safety and Effectiveness of Medicine Use and Medicine Intervention by Pharmacists grant, which will be distributed through the Medical Research Future Fund. 

In a statement released this evening, Hunt said the research would support the Quality Use of Medicine and Medicine Safety National Health Priority, adding it will be part of the Government’s ongoing investments to boost both access to medicines and the safe use of medications. 

Hunt also confirmed Continued Dispensing measures have been extended until 31 March 2021.
