Upjohn Australia splits from Pfizer Direct.

Upjohn Australia, the off-patent branded and established medicines business which is a subsidiary of Pfizer, has just announced it will return to a traditional wholesale distribution model in February next year.

The company sells 18 off-patent medicines in Australia, with Upjohn GM Gareth Richmond saying repositioning back to Community Service Obligation (CSO) wholesalers was a "commercial decision to ensure the business is in the best position for growth going forward".

"This is an important step for Upjohn in Australia that will enable the business to establish a distribution model independent of Pfizer Australia," he added.

Pfizer will continue to utilise the Pfizer Direct platform for its remaining BioPharma business, offering next business day delivery to over 5,600 pharmacies across Australia.
