Pfizer Direct platform to close by 30 September 2021.

Pfizer Australia has just announced a return to wholesale distribution, with its medicines to be distributed through Community Service Obligation (CSO) pharmaceutical wholesalers by the third quarter of 2021.

The company has signed a new contract with API today, and expects to finalise negotiations with other wholesalers shortly.

Pfizer Australia and NZ Managing Director, Anne Harris, said the company now had an increasing focus on innovation and R&D as a global biopharmaceutical business.

"Moving from direct to wholesale distribution will enable a greater focus on our core business as a biopharmaceutical company, and better position ourselves for growth," she said.

The change will apply to Pfizer's full portfolio of innovative and off-patent medicines, which will be supplied to community and hospital pharmacies in Australia via the national wholesaler model.
