Pharmacies to receive Moderna vaccines next week.

Community pharmacy’s COVID-19 vaccination program is set to get a boost next week, with 1,200 stores to receive supplies of Moderna’s SpikeVax.

Announcing the rollout of the sector’s first mRNA vaccine, Pharmacy Guild of Australia National President, Trent Twomey, described it as “the vaccine we’ve all been waiting for”.

“The Moderna vaccine will be available in community pharmacies from next week,” he said.

“Twelve hundred community pharmacies will receive stock at the end of next week and 1,200 will come onboard each week until we hit the 4,000 mark in just under three week's time.

“The Moderna vaccine belongs to the same family of drugs as the Pfizer vaccine - it has a very similar safety profile, a very similar efficacy profile and it is approved by the Therapeutic Goods Administration for administration to all Australians 12 years of age and over.”

An initial shipment of one million doses will arrive this month, with three million due to arrive each month until the end of the year.
