Good morning, Utah Today readers! Here’s your forecast: ☀️ 37 – 64° in Logan ⚠️ ☀️ 51 – 80° in Salt Lake City ⚠️ ☀️ 54 – 88° in St. George ⚠️ Avalanche warning. Happy April 11! Today is not a holiday, but it always feels like an exciting day for me anyway. Particularly because this is one of the first days in months I could go outside without a jacket. Here are a few more interesting things about April 11: 🇫🇷 In 1814, Napoleon Bonaparte abdicated at Fontainebleau. 🚀 In 1970, NASA launched the Apollo 13 space flight. Things were going smoothly until the next day when one of the main electrical systems failed. This is when astronaut Jim Lovell uttered the words, “Houston, we’ve had a problem.” 🩰 Ballet dancer Maria Tallchief, one of George Balenchine’s great muses, died in 2003. She was the first Native American to achieve the rank of “prima ballerina” for the New York City Ballet, and she was the first American to perform for the Paris Opera Ballet. 🐕 A few years ago, I adopted my dog. Probably not as world-changing as the things above, but it changed my life! Happy gotcha day, buddy! Tell me: What other interesting things happened on this day? (Birthdays, anniversaries, historical events I may have missed, etc.) Also on our minds: Prosecutors say Lori Vallow Daybell was motivated by “money, power and sex,” Salt Lake City is no longer a “shoo-in” for the Olympics, and BYU’s first Jewish quarterback brings faith and fervor to the team. |
