Amendment to the approval conditions of the active substance flonicamid

Conclusion and decision on the approval of flonicamid

Applications for the amendment to the approval of active substances in GB are regulated under assimilated Regulation No 1107/2009.

Applicant: ISK Biosciences Europe N.V.

Substance: Flonicamid – an insecticidal active substance for the control of aphids in potatoes, wheat, apples, pears and peaches.

HSE’s conclusion on flonicamid was published on 11 October 2024 and concluded that the active substance is expected to meet the approval criteria with the proposed amended Acute Reference Dose (ARfD) value in place.

The risk assessment which underpins the conclusion has been subject to public consultation.

HSE referred its conclusion and intended decision to GB competent authorities, as required under the Agency Agreements between HSE, Defra and the individual devolved governments.

Decision: Flonicamid can remain approved in GB, for use in plant protection products with an amended ARfD.

The approval conditions of flonicamid have now been updated in the GB Pesticides Approvals Register.

Plant protection products containing flonicamid can be authorised in GB, in accordance with the requirements of assimilated Regulation No 1107/2009.
