Mayor Pete and Klobuchar Team Up to Fight the Bern

It wasn't just Monday's Media Loser engaging in stagecraft in the effort to put a stop to Bernie Sanders by rallying to the Joe Biden bugle call. No, a series of blows were orchestrated by the dearly departed Dem contenders Pete Buttigieg and Amy Klobuchar on Monday.

Mayor Pete was the first of the two to call it quits, of course. Klobuchar's announcement waited until Monday. Unlike in Buttigieg's withdrawal and speech, though, Klobuchar's news came with the big reveal that she will be endorsing Biden. 

Not to be outdone, the Buttigieg camp let slip the same intent.

Not to be outdone by not being outdone, it became clear those endorsements will be at Biden's rally tonight. 

Which they surely hope will go better than his post-endorsement-news afternoon speech went.

The pair endorsing so quickly, and ahead of Super Tuesday, is meant to shift votes and delegates away from Sanders, once again highlighting the Democratic party's battle over whether to be more "progressive" or more "electable."

Stock Market Recovers as Coronavirus Spreads

The good news: the stock market stanched the bleeding. After ringing in the worst week of losses since the financial crisis on Friday, the markets rebounded Monday.

The Dow was up as much as 1300 points. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq rallied as well.

Now the bad news: the death toll from coronavirus reached 6 on Monday. All deaths were in Washington state.

The first case of the virus in New York City was reported on Sunday.

In an interview with CBS anchor Gayle King, NY Governor Andrew Cuomo said the patient is a health care worker who contracted the disease while traveling in Iran. She is being quarantined in her home.

CNN Restricts Travel

Mediaite's Adrian Carrasquillo reported Monday that CNN has severely restricted travel of staff amid growing fears of the virus.

All intercontinental trips need to be personally approved by CNN chief Jeff Zucker himself.

May Your Tuesday Be Forever Super ❤️

It's Super Tuesday tomorrow, ladies and gents, and that means the 2020 Democratic primary race is about to get serious.

14 states are voting, including California and Texas. That's a lot of delegates. With Buttigieg and Klobuchar dropping out, the race is being cast as a battle between Biden and Sanders (with Mike Bloomberg and Elizabeth Warren playing spoilers).

Sanders is expected to come out of Super Tuesday with a substantial lead in the delegate count. But if Biden picks up some important states, or, more realistically, gets above 15% in some of the bigger states, he can scoop up enough delegates to remain competitive.

Steve Kornacki broke down the math for Biden on MSNBC.

Waiting to Expel

President Trump has been saying the Democrats are using the coronavirus as a weapon against him. But CNN’s Paul Begala has a different theory: That Trump is using it as a weapon against Vice President Mike Pence.

Begala called it a “certainty” on Monday that Trump is going replace Pence with former United Nations ambassador Nikki Haley for his reelection. And he says he put him in charge of the coronavirus response as a way of doing it.
