Shocking many, Philadelphia’s University of the Arts (UArts) abruptly announced last week that it will cease operations permanently after 150 years. Students and staff rallied on campus yesterday to protest the sudden closure. Staff Writer Maya Pontone has the story.

Meanwhile, the hacker group that compromised Christie’s website now says it will sell its private client data to the highest bidders, giving the old auction house a taste of its own medicine. Makes you wonder: Are these hackers or conceptual artists?

For our series of interviews with queer elders for Pride Month, our Associate Editor Lisa Yin Zhang reunites with her former thesis adviser, artist and educator Carol Ockman. It’s a fun, heartwarming read.

Also today: Florine Stettheimer’s queer utopias, our Opportunities listings, and a special Pride edition of the increasingly popular Hyperallergic Art Crossword.
