A breakthrough technology could make CPUs 100x faster
| Flow Computing's parallel processing unit could boost many devices | Finland-based Flow Computing has claimed that its proprietary tech, which it refers to as a parallel processing unit (PPU), can boost the performance of any CPU by up to 100 times, Digital Trends reported. Notably, the startup says that it's not only the best CPUs that can benefit -- it insists that all devices in need of high-performance CPUs will find huge benefits in using its PPU. Flow Computing only launched in January and has received a modest $4.3 million of funding to date, but it believes its PPUs could bring significant performance boosts even to smaller devices such as smartphones and watches ... | |

Spotify's HiFi feature may not be a standalone tier after all | We still don't know when Spotify HiFi will roll out, though many believe it will land before the end of the year | Following a report last month that Spotify was considering a standalone tier for its long-awaited HiFi feature with lossless audio support, a new report by Bloomberg this week now suggests it’ll be an add-on to its Premium plan. A source claiming to have knowledge of the matter told the news site that Spotify will charge subscribers an extra $5 a month to gain access to the lossless audio feature. Taking into account Spotify’s recent fee increase for the Premium plan to $12 for users in the U.S., it means subscribers wanting HiFi will have to pay $17 a month, about $3 less than what earlier reports suggested a standalone HiFi tier might cost ... | |

| Directed by Kelly O’Sullivan and Alex Thompson and starring Keith Kupferer, Ghostlight is about a construction worker who unexpectedly joins a local theater's production of Romeo and Juliet, with the drama onstage ending up mirroring his own life. Variety described it as a “sensitive” movie that “celebrates the power of theater to move audiences and actors alike,” while Deadline called it “a funny, intelligent, and yet at times almost unbearably sad movie” that “somehow never hits a false note.” The Hollywood Reporter found Ghostlight to be “a disarming dramedy about grief, theater, and finding your people,” while the Guardian, which gave it a 4/5 rating, called it a “charming tale” ... | |
