photo basel, Switzerland’s first international art fair dedicated to photography is pleased to announce Daniel Blochwitz as the fair’s Curator. In this role, he will work closely with the fair’s Director in leading the efforts to further grow and position the fair internationally. Born in Germany, Daniel Blochwitz graduated from the University of Florida with a Master’s degree in visual arts and photography. After working for a number of years in New York, Daniel came to Switzerland to assume the position of Director at Edwynn Houk Gallery in Zürich. In more recent years, Daniel initiated and curated several high calibre exhibitions with the likes of Vivian Meier, Hans Feurer, Arnold Odermatt and René Groebli. In addition, Daniel has co-edited several books, lectured at art schools and universities and is often invited to chair juries as an expert. Daniel is an industry veteran with almost 25 years of experience - his excellent network, his people skills and his ability to spot the extraordinary make him a wonderful candidate for this position. Furthermore, photo basel is delighted to welcome Véronique Prugnaud to its curatorial circle. Véronique gained her vast experience through positions held at Paris Photo and most recently with "The Eyes" magazine. In addition, photo basel is excited to host the 2017 Paris Photo – Aperture Foundation PhotoBook Awards during the fair in June 2018. The exhibition includes the 35 shortlisted books from the categories PhotoBook of the year, First PhotoBook and Catalogue of the Year. Applications for the fourth edition of photo basel are accepted through January 31st, 2018. |
