| Roland Guttermann worked under the Stasi for the passport control (PKE) at the Helmstedt–Marienborn border crossing (the largest and most important border crossing on the inner German border during the division of Germany), he decided to stay in the area and repair cars. Dario-Jacopo Laganà: "Deutschland Übergestern" | | | | Radical changes in the workplace after the turn | | 8 November 2019 – 3 January 2020 | | Opening: Thursday, 7 November, 7pm | | | | | | | | The fall of the Berlin Wall has produced many different stories, some of which are so specific and complex that they require a profound knowledge of German history in order to be understood. When designing projects that deal with historical issues, it is necessary to find the right balance between historical precision and emotional accessibility to arouse the viewer's interest.
The photographic project Germany Übergestern (sponsored by the Federal Foundation for the Study of Communist Dictatorship in East Germany - GDR) investigates the stories of those people who did not fit into the new system after the fall of the wall with their previous professional biography, drastically change their job and career and they had to leave their former life behind.
The Italian photographer Dario J Laganà has met some of these people after extensive research on working and industrial culture of the GDR after the reunification period. In the exhibition he reconstructs a number of these personal life-paths in photographic portraits and interviews, which bring the reader and the viewer closer to this part of German history and its protagonists. Anyone who has worked or is still at work can easily identify with these types of stories. The universal connotation of work can be understood by anyone without the specific knowledge of the socio-political circumstances that characterized events after the fall of the Wall.
In addition to the radical changes that can be seen as negative changes in working life, there are also cases where the break with the past and reunification have brought a positive change and new opportunities. Among other things, you will find stories of people who repaired umbrellas before the turnaround and now run a transporta…

|
| | | | 9 November 2019 – 31 January, 2020 | | Opening: Saturday, 9 November, 12-3pm in the presence of Gundel Kilian | | | | | | | | Hannes Kilian was the eye of a long century - one that was often as crazy and breathtaking as the characters it left behind. Sometimes, Kilian managed to capture this craziness in a single photo - sometimes knowingly and deliberately, sometimes by chance and en passant. This was also the case in 1977, when the photographer, born in Ludwigshafen in 1909, saw the mysterious silhouette of a small church in the shadow of the two large towers of the then-young World Trade Center. On a black-and-white photograph photographed from below, Kilian combines the three buildings into a structure-oriented composition: Neo-Romanesque arches cast their shadows before the then highest temples of postmodernism. What may have looked like in 1977, like a passing punchline in Manhattan's multi-layered architectural history, turned out to be a queasy anticipation for 9/11: The insignia of the old gods meet the new symbols of a capitalism that has become religious: tower against turret God against Idol - like a first prelude to the long-awaited next millennium.
Of all this, Hannes Kilian, who died two years before September 11, 2001, knew nothing. As so often in his long life as a photographer, it was rather fortune and coincidence that led him to shake hands with images like this one. Where other photographers tried to grab the world spirit by leaping over the great historical moments, the course of events for Kilian revealed itself more in the layering of banality and everydayness. Perhaps his penchant for the small and anecdotal was one of the reasons why he never achieved the same fame during his lifetime as some of his contemporaries. Throughout the many phases of his multi-faceted creations, Hannes Kilian remained an exceptional talent and a loner. He did not associate him…

| Fernand FONSSAGRIVES & Noé SENDAS | | CORPS FORMELS | | Fernand Fonssagrives » Noé Sendas » | | ... until 4 January 2020 | | | | | | | | Galerie Miranda presents a photographic dialogue between the sensuality of Fernand Fossagrives' formal black and white nudes from the 1950s and the contemporary manipulated works by Noé Sendas - rigorous, sophisticated and witty.
Fernand Fonssagrives (1910 - 2003, France) Born in 1910 to a sculptor father and a musician mother, Fonssagrives developed an early sensitive to physical grace and movement and his first career was as a dancer. He moved to America at the age of 18 to continue his studies of dance and returned to Europe at the age of 21 for his military service. In 1935 he met the young Swedish dancer Lisa Bergstrom who would became his dance partner then his wife. Following a diving accident Lisa gave him a Rolleiflex and he commented that it was his first 'real' camera, and it would be become like a part of his body. The couple divorced in 1950 and Lisa later married Irving Penn. Fernand Fonssagrives' most memorable work traces their unique partnership, captured in sublime black and white chiaroscuro nudes formalized by a geometric play of light and shadow, that created a precedent at the time, much imitated since. Galerie Miranda will present a selection of signed artist prints of key works from the 1950s, exhibited in Paris for the first time.
Noé Sendas (b. 1972, Belgium, lives and works in Berlin) Noé Sendas began exhibiting his work in the late nineties. He resorts to different means of expression: video, sculpture, collage, drawing and photography. Explicit and implicit references to artists and literary, cinematic, or musical creations are part of his raw materials. Rooted in cinematic and literary references, his images depict phantom-like, partial figures whose heads and limbs appear to be invisible, or which have seemingly blended into furniture or walls. Drawing upon photographic modernism, abstraction and surrealism, his staged, partly erased human bodies directly and indirectly reference Dora Maar and Man Ray, John Baldessari and Guy Bourdin, Robert Gober and John Stezaker. After more than 50 solo expositions in Europe, Galerie Miranda will present for the first time in Paris selected recent works by Noé Sendas, in particular his 2015 body of work "Wallpaper* Girl".

TAXED TO THE MAX asks: how does the increasingly perfected entanglement of corporatism, finance capital and modern government affect the lives of regular people?
With the 34 participants, the festival presents a refreshing mix of photo series, mixed media, video and sound installations, performances, and spatial work on this theme.
