Physician salaries increased in 2022

Along with their existing medical staff credentialing obligations, MSPs are increasingly tasked with managing provider enrollment duties. With a solid grasp of the payer credentialing process and requirements, MSPs can avoid payer credentialing delays to reduce lost revenue.

Physicians made more money in 2022 than 2021, according to Medscape’s 2022 Physician Compensation Report. Both primary care and specialty physicians saw an increase in compensation in the past year. Since 2015, physician compensation has increased by 29%.

CMS continues to gradually end some emergency blanket waivers allowed under the COVID-19 public health emergency (PHE) for some providers, but for now the 1135 waivers remain intact for acute care and critical access hospitals. The current 90-day PHE declaration was renewed and posted online Wednesday, and is effective through July 15.
