According to a recent report by the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM), 83% of surveyed healthcare professionals view physician burnout as a major issue at their respective institutions. While this number is down from 96% in 2016, the majority of the 2018 respondents believe the problem of burnout has become significantly worse in recent years.

In a 4-3 decision, the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania (the “Court”) recently affirmed a Superior Court decision to uphold a trial court’s ruling that limited the scope of the state’s Peer Review Protection Act (PRPA). The Court ruled that peer review documents are only protected by the PRPA if they are generated by professional healthcare providers.
