Good morning marketers, are you promoting products on Pinterest?

Pinterest yesterday announced a number of new commerce marketing updates designed to make product discovery easier. Users can now find in-stock fashion or home decor products in several new ways, including through a new “Shop” tab that will appear on Search and on boards to identify in-stock products from retailers. Additionally, Pinterest’s visual search functionality is now integrated directly in shoppable Pins and new home decor style guides can be found via Search. The updates have already started to roll out and include price and brand filters. The Shop tab on boards will show products from or inspired by the Pins users have saved to their home decor or fashion boards.

In other news, a new survey that argues in favor of the value of SEO during an economic downturn. The survey of 317 marketers in B2B, retail, healthcare and media among other industries, found that more than 60% expect to focus more on SEO, with its long-term benefits, during this time as advertising budgets are getting cut.

Gaming tournaments roll out, Facebook’s new ‘F’ button on its mobile app

Facebook gaming Tournaments. Facebook is opening early access to a new gaming tournament feature that lets players challenge one another in various tourney-style formats. According to Facebook, the feature was developed with three primary goals in mind: To provide a centralized hub for tournament organizers, to offer “better discovery and functionality” for tournament players, and to give developers and gaming communities an easy way to connect. Why we care: Facebook developers that are monetizing their games via Facebook’s audience network ads could see increased engagement (and awareness, for that matter) as gamers pool together to participate in tournaments. Facebook’s new ‘F’ button for mobile. This week, Facebook started more broadly testing a new look on its mobile app: the F button (and no, not that F). Taken from the Facebook logo, the F icon sits in the center of the bottom tabs and looks like this. When tapped, the icon shrinks down while pulling up Facebook’s main menu options listing. Why we care: Easy access to the main menu gives users the ability to more seamlessly navigate to some of the most commonly-used features, including Pages, Groups, Events, and Friends (among others). It’s another step toward making it simpler for people to find what they’re looking for, which could benefit business Pages and Groups in the long run. Source: Matt Navarra on Twitter

Mindful Moment

This is a difficult time for us all. We are sharing a mindfulness exercise daily to help those interested to take a moment to decompress and regain focus. If you have a tip or exercise to share with the community, please email me at tpeterson@thirddoormedia.com.

Yawn and stretch for 10 seconds every hour. Do a fake yawn if you have to. That will trigger real ones. Say “ahh” as you exhale. Notice how a yawn interrupts your thoughts and feelings. This brings you into the present. Then stretch really, really slowly for at least 10 seconds. Notice any tightness and say “ease” or just say hello to that place (being mindful — noticing without judgment). Take another 20 seconds to notice and then get back to what you were doing.
