Creativity and localism - strengthening place by thinking small At the start of COVID-19, the provision of a £10k grant (Scottish Government) to Galashiels enabled 7 placed based projects. The idea behind the projects was to utilise creativity and local talent, during lockdown, with the mantra being 'strengthening place by thinking small'. In essence, the driving force has been a heart-and-minds approach, for the town, during the pandemic to boost community spirits. The outputs will be linked to a future 'Tapestry & Town' event to celebrate the opening of the Great Tapestry of Scotland building (Spring/Summer 2021). Through the work, it is hoped not to underestimate the power of simple projects on people and places. Not everything needs large sums of money to trigger change and bring joy. Think small!
