This plastic waste edition mailing comes to you just in time for the International Solid Waste Association's (ISWA) congress in Singapore. The theme of this year's event 'Don't Waste Our Future!' highlights the 'importance of human impact on the environment, with targets to promote economic growth, increase efficiency in production and consumption, sustainably managing waste and resources and taking action to support climate change.' These are all crucial aspects WASTE has been developing sustainable solutions for, for years.

Plastic waste recycling heroes: Insights from African entrepreneurs
The aim of this publication is to disseminate lessons learned from the support of three entrepreneurs in Africa. This includes Oumar in Mali, Kevin in Kenya, and Mamadou in Senegal–our plastic waste recycling heroes. We also look at this collection of insights to explore key questions about accelerating plastic recycling as part of the circular economy in Africa. It looks at the potential of plastic in the waste sector and highlights existing practices.


Closing the Data Gap: Solid and plastic waste assessment in Udaipur, India

Combining data on municipal solid waste generated, plastic waste generated and recycled, and insights into the livelihoods and working conditions of informal waste workers in the city, the findings will help inform organizations, policymakers and investors as they implement solutions to tackle plastic pollution and advance the circular economy in the region.
 

India's dire plastic problem
 
As with much of the world, India’s growing plastic pollution is reaching a critical mass. With WASTE’s experience and expertise in integrated waste management, we have been working with partners in India to develop accessible and scalable solutions, especially addressing a key bottleneck of low-value, difficult-to-recycle multi-layer plastics (MLPs).
