| | | Tiny beetle, big problem We're asking residents to check their trees and plants for signs of a tiny, yet invasive beetle called Polyphagous shot-hole borer (PSHB), which is causing big problems in the Perth metro area. It's also important you're aware of the restrictions on the movement of wood and plant material from your property, as they could act as hosts and potentially spread the borer. Green waste can be placed on your verge as normal, but please check your trees and plants for any unusual symptoms before you start pruning and report them immediately to DPIRD: mypestguide.agric.wa.gov.au/reporter. PSHB attacks a wide range of plants by tunnelling into trunks, stems and branches causing tree die back and death. To stop the spread, the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development has a Quarantine Area Notice in place for 25 local government areas, including the City of Cockburn. | PSHB signs |

| | Wastewise events deliver impressive results In a powerful collaboration between event partners go2cup, WRITE Solutions Australia, all our food vendors, the City of Cockburn and the 74,000 people that attended our Cockburn LIVE events, we've achieved outstanding results in waste avoidance and succeeded in 'Being a GREAT Sort'. The results are in: - 56,000 reusable and compostable cutlery and crockery from Go2Cup replaced single-use plastic
- 400kg of waste was sent to landfill – that’s 5 grams per person
- 500kg of organic waste was sent to our composting partners WRITE Solutions – about 7 grams per person
- 10,000 containers returned to refund points resulted in $1,000 donated to local charity organisations.
Our Wastewise Events Policy aims to implement approaches to reduce, reuse and recycle at our community events as we work towards a sustainable future. |
