Call for Poetry Submission Deadline: Sunday, February 21 at Midnight Virtual Poetry Reading: Sunday, February 28, 2 PM via Zoom Free to participate
We invite submissions of poetry in response to the ideas and questions raised in CAM's two exhibitions: Willie Cole's Black Art Matters and The Face of Lincoln. Participants are allowed a maximum of two submissions and each submission should be under 100 words and written in English, Spanish, or both. Submissions are encouraged either through our online portal or written and dropped in the physical mailbox between the two exhibitions at CAM.
Submitted works may be displayed on CAM’s website and/or shared during a virtual event. Deadline for submission is Sunday, February 21 with a virtual poetry reading Sunday, February 28. |

Community Project Pandemic Story Quilt Return Finished Quilt Square and/or Writing to CAM: Saturday, March 20 by 5 PM Art Kits: $10 each Limit of 3 kits per family/purchase, so that we can hear from many different families in our community about their experiences.
Cameron Art Museum and The Advocacy Project have come together to present the Pandemic Story Quilt Community Project. Create your own story quilt squares that will be sewn together into large quilts by Bobbi Fitzsimmons and local quilters. These will be displayed in an exhibition of Pandemic Story Quilts on display at the Cameron Art Museum this Spring.
How has the pandemic changed your life? The COVID pandemic has affected everyone. The ways in which it has impacted us may depend on where we live, our age, our families, and our health. People around the world have told their stories in pictures and those pictures are being put into quilts. Each quilt has a different perspective.
We would like you to tell your story with fabric and markers. We want to see how the pandemic has affected different people and in what ways. These story squares will be added into quilts to show different perspectives in the Wilmington community. The resulting quilts will be on display at the CAM beginning in April 2021
- Your CAM bag includes two pieces of 10”x10” fabric (one to contribute to the Pandemic Story Quilt, and one for you to keep), five colorful permanent markers, one ultra-fine tip black marker, a piece of lined paper, and writing/idea suggestions.
- Please sketch your design on a separate piece of paper before drawing on your fabric.
- When you like what you have drawn, transfer your design to the fabric.
- Leave at least half inch borders on each side of your design.
- You are welcome to write down your story or poem on the paper provided and return it with your quilt squares. All returned writings will be made into a booklet that will be on display in the exhibition and available on our website.
- Please only return one square per CAM bag (we have calculated the number of squares needed to create three quilts). Families are more than welcome to work on a square together!
- Return your finished quilt square (and/or writing) to CAM by Saturday, March 20. If your quilt square has not been returned by this date, it cannot be included into the community quilt. You can return your quilt square to the front desk anytime during regular CAM business hours (Tuesday – Saturday, 10 AM to 5 PM, closed Mondays).

In-Person Photography Workshop The Garden in Winter with Alan Cradick Saturday, February 20, 10 AM-12 PM and Sunday, February 21, 12-2 PM Zoom Critique CAM Members: $48; Non-Members: $60
The New Hanover County Arboretum is a wonderful place to visit year-round. The garden is tended to show off the best of every season. Even in winter, this garden is a wonderful place to spend time with a camera, tablet or smart phone. Join Alan Cradick and seek out the gems offer up by the winter season in this beautiful space. Oh, and yes, the Koi are in residence all year. We meet at the Arboretum at 10 am on Saturday, February 20, 2021, the following day, we join a Zoom meeting from noon to 2 pm to view our work. The Sunday session includes a group critique of our work. |
