[Not displaying correctly? View web version.] | Peak of Flight Newsletter #501: | Imagine you go to a local launch, and the club is short staffed for range duty. They ask you to run the safety check table and help the kids get their rockets ready for flight. Before you panic and say you aren't qualified, remember that all of us old-timers were all in that same situation at some point in our rocketry careers. It isn't as bad as you think. This article by Jim Bassham walks you through his NAR+3 method of checking rockets for stability. It is very straight forward, and if you're checking small rockets at a local launch, it is more than enough to give you the confidence you need to get the kids through the line and to have successful flights. It is great for teachers and group leaders too! | Read the rest of this week's article, either on a downloadable PDF for printing out, or on our website (great for viewing on your phone)! Check out the latest products to hit Apogee's shelves! Simple Timer for Staging | The Apogee SimpleTimer for Staging has been designed for timing applications in model rocketry. Its intended use is to start the sustainer motor of a two-stage rocket. It allows you to perform spectacular flights that excite any crowd at the launch range. To assure launch safety, its built-in logic prevents ignition of the upper stage if the rocket goes unstable or is tilted more than 45° from vertical at the time of ignition of the upper stage. This prevents the upper stage from flying on an unsafe trajectory. It is perfect for high-power rockets! |
Semroc Taurus | The Semroc Taurus is an updated version of the classic Centuri kit that first appeared in 1972. It was advertised as an Alien Planetary Cruiser. It has all the classic components of a throw-back rocket kit, like a four balsa wood nose cones, two balsa transtion sections, a lot of tubes, water-slide decals, and a lot of body tubes. If you paint it up in the Taurian Admiralty's fleet colors, this is an attractive model that will gather a lot of attention at your next launch. |
Semroc USS America | What a way to celebrate Independance Day with the launch of the USS America. This reproduction of the Centuri model rocket from 1976 is sure to be a successful highlight at your next launch. With two side pods and simulated jet engines slung beneath the wings, the model is as distinctive as it is powerful. Flies on 24mm diameter D, E and F size model rocket motors. |
Semroc Blue Jay | The Semroc Blue Jay is a delta-shaped joined-wing glider. Its shape allows for easy assembly like a jigsaw puzzle, and for a nice easy glide without a lot of fussing around during the trimming process. The motor pod detaches from the glider at burnout, and is recovered by a long streamer. |

| “I have been buying products from Apogee rocketry for some time and have consistently found high quality products, excellent kit building instructions, streamline ordering processes, and timely and reliable delivery. Any questions are answered promptly and respectfully. Having ordered from other companies as well, there is no doubt in my mind that this is top tier and a credit to Tim Millegan for building it to what it is today. Great job!” — Richard Larden | |

I need help with generating the bi-weekly newsletter articles since it takes a lot of effort to put them together. And I'm willing to pay big bucks for your help. So ask yourself, are you looking to earn some extra money? I'm now actively seeking writers for articles to appear in this newsletter. And I want unique and cutting-edge articles because that is what you want to read, right? I realize this, so to get articles from outside writers that have the same level of quality, I'm going to have to pay a lot of cash to make it worth it for them. So I've come up with a compensation package where I'll pay up to $350 for good how-to articles. Are you a writer, and does that interest you? That is a lot of cash! Far more than you'll get by writing for other magazines. And with over 23,000 worldwide subscribers, if you write for the Peak-of-Flight Newsletter, you'll gain a lot of notoriety. Writing for the Peak-of-Flight Newsletter is a great way to show off your rocketry projects and your technical expertise, at the same time as helping out other rocketeers. Imagine how great you'll feel knowing that you made a difference to the hobby. If you're interested in writing, see the guidelines on our site. | |
