Good morning and welcome to a new week. Over the weekend, we published a series of analyses on a poll where we asked Minneapolis residents about the police, city leaders and the criminal justice system. More on the poll results and other news you should know to start your week.

Weather bliss Monday. Wherever you’re in Minnesota, you’ll get to enjoy this lovely summer weather today, with sunny skies and highs in the 70s. It’ll stay relatively cool, with highs in the 70s and 80s, throughout this week, but there are some chances of storms later this week. Most Minneapolis voters say yes to defund police, but divided on dismantling MPD. That’s according to a new poll of 800 voters registered in the city. 73% of respondents said the city should redirect funding from the police department to other programs. On the other hand, respondents were split about whether they want fewer officers on the force. Another interesting finding: Black residents were slightly more likely than whites to oppose reductions in the police force. Read more on the poll results and analysis here. 

President Trump will be in Mankato today. The president is stopping in the southern Minnesota city this afternoon, where he is expected to talk about his rival Joe Biden and the economy. After his Minnesota visit, Trump will make stops in Wisconsin and Arizona as part of his campaign tour this week. More from MPR News' Brian Bakst.

Meanwhile, Democratic National Convention takes place this week. The convention will take place Monday through Thursday and is scheduled to broadcast from 8 to 10 p.m. Each night will feature "both live and curated content originating from Milwaukee and other satellite cities, locations and landmarks across the country" and presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden is set to accept the nomination near his home in Delaware. 

Monday: The first night of the convention will address the "series of monumental challenges" facing Americans, notably the ongoing pandemic and economic recession as well as civil unrest bringing attention to racism and inequality in the country.

Speakers include: Former first lady Michelle Obama, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, former Ohio Gov. John Kasich (a Republican), Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

13 postal districts serving key battlegrounds in 2020 election rarely hit delivery targets. Postal performance dataanalyzed by APM Reports shows that the postal districts serving large cities in some swing states failed to meet the government’s on-time targets for first-class mail, which is widely used to mail out absentee ballots. Some say it could become even worse with Postmaster General Louis DeJoy’s recent changes to the service, including letting partially empty trucks leave on time and cutting overtime costs. 

Weekend summary of COVID-19 in Minnesota: 1,450 new cases reported over the weekend; death toll surpasses 1,700. Minnesota has now passed 65,000 confirmed COVID-19 cases. Health officials reported 696 and 754 new daily cases on Saturday and Sunday respectively. New death counts remained in single digits, and hospitalizations fell below 300 for the first time since the end of July.

• 1,706 deaths (seven new)

• 5,851 cases requiring hospitalization
