What to do to better your odds of a promotion
You're ready to ask for a raise or promotion if you can prove you've been performing above your role for at least six months, writes Anisa Purbasari Horton. It also helps to ask for an endorsement from a key stakeholder and present a plan that details how your new role will benefit the company.

Managers are the release valve for stressed-out workers
Good leaders are like plumbers in that they allow employees to blow off steam when the pressure builds, writes Terry St. Marie. "Teammates must feel comfortable walking into your office, or calling you on the phone, to express their anger or frustration, or to bring you bad news," he writes.

Your Next Challenge
Is it time to give your resume the Marie Kondo treatment?
Experts agree the current simplicity rage should extend to resumes, especially if they're longer than two pages or include work experience from more than 10 years ago, writes Rachel Weingarten. Although professional summaries are fine, objective statements are no longer necessary, but exceptions to brevity may apply: People seeking executive-level positions may include a bio of up to half a page.

Burnout is often the first step to recovery
When work stress continually overwhelms, try to identify what tasks are most draining and seek help in coping and finding solutions, write Alyssa Pry and Jeanie Ahn. "This rock-bottom feeling can be the start of motivation to get yourself out of the cycle and give you the energy you need to jumpstart a change," they write.
