Are you ready for the Madness? I’m not talking about March Madness, although we’ve got plenty to say about that. I’m talking about Portal Madness, which begins today with the opening of the NCAA’s transfer portal. As of this morning, any player is permitted to publicly declare his intention to transfer. The portal will close in 30 days, but players have until the fall to decide which school they want to play for, though the vast majority will make their destinations known well before then. As much as we all love the NCAA Tournament, the interest in what is essentially college basketball’s free agency period is at an all-time high. As such, I am happy to report that Hoops HQ is partnering with The Portal Report to bring you the most comprehensive, expansive and detailed coverage of Portal Madness that you will find anywhere. That starts today with a list of the top 10 players who have declared their intentions to transfer. And of course, we’ve got plenty of coverage of the weekend’s NCAA Tournament action, topped by my preview of the Sweet Sixteen, wherein I present the most vexing questions facing each of the remaining teams. There is much to write about Sunday’s games, from Florida’s narrow escape over two-time defending champ UConn, to Maryland’s controversial win over Colorado State, to reports from Eden Laase and Wilton Jackson on the women’s tournament. Things are going to stay fast-paced and jam packed as we get ready for the action to resume Thursday night. There has never been a better time to be a college basketball fan, which means there has never been a better time to be a Hoops HQ subscriber — a sweet $16 for your first year. I hope you’ll enjoy our coverage of the Portal Madness and all the action to come. Have a great Monday, and thanks as always for your support of Hoops HQ. —Seth |
