I spoke at Leadercast last week and one of the other speakers was Jesse Cole who created and owns the Savanah Bananas.
Jesse has gone from sleeping on an air mattress after selling his house in order to pay his employees to selling out stadiums with his unique brand of baseball called Banana Ball.
When Jesse reached out to me years ago
to be on my podcast during the early days of the Savanah Bananas I remember thinking who is this unique guy with the yellow tux? I didn’t know much about him but I loved his passion and energy.
He also told me that my book
The Carpenterencouraged him as a leader and entrepreneur and so I wanted to encourage and support him on his leadership journey.
Well, the other night before the Leadercast event we met for dinner and the student became the teacher as he shared with me a valuable lesson I want to share with you.
Jesse said everyone is focusing on being better, faster, cheaper and easier. But how about instead you create your own category and become The Only.
The Savanah Bananas are one of a kind. There’s nothing like it. They reinvented baseball and made it an entertaining show. They are the only one who does what they do.
I’ve been thinking about this ever since and want to encourage you to do the same.
In a world of copy cats and knock offs, look for ways you can stand out. Be creative and identify where you can become The Only one in your category. Find your uniqueness and distinction and develop it.
It might take time and a lot of thought but it will be worth it!
