PRE-SALE TICKET LINKFriday, February 14, 10:00 am EST through Monday night February 17, 11:59 pm EST After a national tour in celebration of the 50th anniversary of Garrison Keillor’s A Prairie Home Companion, APHC is back on the road, giving fans another chance to witness this iconic piece of American culture. The troupe is pleased to again be taking the stage at Tanglewood Music Center — always a favorite stop. Joining Garrison are music director Rich Dworsky and the band, actors Tim Russell, Sue Scott, and sound-effects wizard Fred Newman, and guest performers too. More than half a century since its premiere, A Prairie Home Companion is still a mainstay for enthusiasts across the globe. It was on July 6, 1974, that Garrison Keillor hosted the show’s first broadcast. The venue was the Janet Wallace Auditorium at Macalester College in Saint Paul, and admission for the 12 or so who attended was $1 (50 cents for kids). Eventually, some 4 million listeners (on close to 700 public radio stations) tuned in every week for the music, comedy sketches, and accounts of life in tiny Lake Wobegon (where the women are strong, the men are good-looking, and the children are all above average). The perennially popular weekly radio program remained on the air for more than 1,500 shows.
