An amateur jewellery heist gone wrong made headlines on this day in 1962. Police arrested a young, unemployed male over the theft of several items from a Manuka store. The jewellery was found by police buried at the base of a tree in Red Hill. The impressive haul included the stores entire stock of diamond engagement rings, wedding and eternity rings, pearls, cigarette lighters and men's and women's watches. READ MORE
