Dear Friend,

Welcome back to my Week in Review newsletter. Please remember to follow me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn and YouTube for regular updates on how I am serving the people of South Carolina!

This week, I focused on holding the Biden administration accountable for its failure to protect the American Dream. From opening up our border to terrorists, to taking away vital funding from expectant mothers and blocking economic opportunity, President Biden is letting down the people he’s supposed to serve. I pushed back against those failed policies, and I remain committed to putting the needs of Americans first.

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

President Biden Owns the Border CrisisImage

Watch my interview here.

This week, I went on Fox and Friends to discuss the Biden administration’s open border policy and illegal immigration crisis. I warned that the border “deal” would only exacerbate the crisis by codifying catch and release, allowing up to 5,000 border crossings each day, issuing 250,000 new green cards and more. The president can end this crisis right now by enforcing the laws on the books.

Supporting Moms and Babies

Protecting life starts with supporting moms. As the Biden administration tries to block Temporary Assistance for Needy Families funds for pregnancy centers, I was proud to introduce legislation that protects funding for these lifesaving organizations. My Supporting Pregnant and Parenting Women and Families Act lifts up struggling mothers and helps ensure pregnancy centers can keep doing the Lord’s work. I will never stop fighting to support mothers and children in need.

Pressing for Solutions at the BorderImage

Watch the interview in full here

Since October 2023, a record-breaking more than one million people have illegally crossed our southern border. President Biden’s open border policy has placed a heavy burden on many Americans, including our Border Patrol officers who have been overwhelmed with the magnitude of the border invasion.

I went on Fox Business to urge the president to end this invasion by simply enforcing the immigration laws already on the books. I also championed my border security legislation, which takes the $42 billion for the Biden administration’s 87,000 new IRS agents and reallocates it to Border Patrol so they have the necessary resources to secure America’s border.

Holding the Treasury Secretary Accountable

Watch my full opening statement to Sec. Yellen here.

During this week’s Senate Banking Committee hearing, I questioned Secretary of the Treasury Janet Yellen in her first appearance before the committee since May of 2022. As the top Republican on the committee, I pressed the Secretary on her pursuit of the Biden administration’s political agenda over promoting our economic interests. From touting President Biden’s economic policies while Americans are burdened with historically high inflation, to prioritizing European climate policies that will harm American businesses, the Biden administration’s foreign and domestic failures pose a growing threat to the American Dream.

But the Treasury Secretary also has jurisdiction over how we use our economic tools – like sanctions – that promote our national security interests both at home and abroad. That’s why in the wake of Hamas’s October 7 terrorist attack on Israel, I called on Secretary Yellen to testify regarding the Biden administration’s release of billions of dollars to Iran, who has funded the terrorist organization that has attacked U.S. military personnel and our allies. So, at the hearing, I asked Secretary Yellen about her decision to release funds to one of the largest state-sponsors of terrorism. Americans deserve answers.

Making Waves

Fox News:  Sen. Tim Scott a 'Hades no' on Senate border, immigration deal

Reporting for Fox News, Adam Shaw and Andrew Murray write, “Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C., told Fox News Digital on Monday that he is a definite no vote on the Senate border and immigration deal coupled to aid for Israel and Ukraine -- arguing that aid to Israel should be siloed off separately and that President Biden already has the power he needs to end the border crisis.”

Palmetto State Pride

This week, I’m spilling the Sweet Tea on a memorial being constructed to commemorate Mother Emanuel Church. Eight years ago, a hate-filled man tried to turn South Carolinians against each other, taking nine precious lives in a vicious act. Instead of revenge, the Palmetto State chose forgiveness. It’s incredibly moving to see this beautiful tribute to the memory of not only who we lost, but who we are as South Carolinians.
