Preston's walk-in Covid test centres close in shake up

One of the saddest elements of the pandemic has been the way that people in care homes have been unable to see their loved ones.
Back at the start of lockdown, I think we all understood why it was necessary to keep homes in a tight bubble and despite emotional difficulty of not being able to see a husband, wife, mother or father, people just got on with it. After all, enough people were dying in care homes without introducing a further risk.
But we are now seven months down the line and still there are people who have not been able to have any close contact with their relatives.
Surely that cannot be right? There must be some way of ensuring that we keep people as safe as possible while still allowing them that vital human contact that we all need, particularly when we are more vulnerable.
Of course, none of us wants to introduce risks for care home clients and staff. But the mental trauma of this must be causing severe difficulties for all.
We may need to think laterally, but we definitely need a solution to this.
