FURTHER AND FURTHER SOUTH Last week, the 'Oosterschelde' visited Puerto Madryn in Argentina. We dropped anchor in the Golfo Nuevo, a large bay between the Patagonian plateau Meseta and the Valdés Peninsula. This area is world-renowned for the large numbers of whales, sea lions, penguins, albatrosses, and orcas that inhabit it. The crew has spotted them all! We are now on our way to the Falkland Islands/Malvinas. We have left the subtropical regions behind and are preparing for even lower temperatures and rougher seas as we sail farther south. Before the year-end, we will set sail through the Magellan Strait towards Punta Arenas, later sailing into the Pacific Ocean through the Chilean fjords. Since the last circumnavigation, over ten years ago, the 'Oosterschelde' has not been in the Pacific Ocean. In 2024, we make up for it with voyages to the most remote island groups. A video report is being made for each leg of the global voyage. Click here to see what we experienced on our recent journeys. |
