Preview our new platform design! Project MUSE invites you to preview our newly redesigned platform by visiting our beta site. A work in progress with additional development occurring on an ongoing basis, the beta will run in parallel with our current site for the next several months leading up to the formal release of the new site in mid-2018. A feedback form is available on the beta site and comments, questions, and suggestions are encouraged. |
|
Among the exciting new features available in this early preview of the new site are: - Content footnotes and references presented “in-line” with the associated text in articles and chapters.
- Additional search facets for book series and thematic journal issues.
- Personalized “My MUSE” accounts allowing users to save searches, create a custom library of MUSE materials, and search within their personal library.
- Sample open access monographs in browser-native HTML5, supporting richer linking and conversations around the content.
|
|
Upon release of the new platform, over 300 additional open access monographs in HTML5 will be available. All of the open access books will be fully supported with discovery tools including MARC records, KBART availability, and metadata distribution and linking, and will be preserved with support from PORTICO and LOCKSS. Take a test drive on the beta site now! |

More About MUSE Open In July 2016, Project MUSE was awarded a nearly $1 million grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to implement MUSE Open, a distribution program for open access (OA) monographs in the humanities and social sciences on the MUSE platform. Intended to ensure the OA monographs’ usability, discoverability, and accessibility and fully integrate them with MUSE’s current content, the grant supported the development of a more robust user experience for all of the scholarship on MUSE, with an intuitive new interface and a suite of tools focused on the researcher. | Open Access on Project MUSE MUSE currently hosts over 550 fully open access (OA) books from several distinguished university presses. The books are provided through the permission of their publishers and are freely available to libraries and users around the world.
The OA books on MUSE: • May be searched and browsed using the same tools for all content on MUSE • Will appear in search results with MUSE journals and books already owned by participating libraries • Require no login or registration for access • Are offered DRM-free • Provide unlimited downloading and printing
