Hey folks, The other day, we released a new product that ten years ago I would have balked at: a no dairy alternative for cheese sauce called Primal Kitchen No Dairy Cheddar Cheez-Style Sauce. When we announced in the Facebook groups, there were some skeptical and downright negative comments. And believe me, I was expecting those. I even understand where they’re coming from. But let me explain what’s going on here. I started Primal Kitchen and created the entire Primal Blueprint way of eating and living in order to solve problems I was having. I stopped running insane amounts of mileage and eating buckets of grains or ice cream. Instead, I turned to a more ancestral way of eating, living, and exercising because I was destroying my life by overtraining as an endurance athlete. Then I realized how many other people were dealing with similar chronic health issues due to evolutionary mismatches. This is how Mark’s Daily Apple and the Primal Blueprint were born. As time went on, Mark’s Daily Apple and the Primal Blueprint gained more attention. I began experimenting with recipes, many of which I just whipped up at home because I got a craving for tuna salad but didn’t want to consume industrial seed oils. Through this I realized millions of others may also have the same mealtime obstacles I was facing. That’s when Primal Kitchen came to be. The books and blogs have done great, and the mayos, dressings, sauces, and condiments have arguably done even better. We have identified and met a real need out there in the world. Then the opportunity came to reach more customers, including those who weren’t necessarily into the ancestral health space. Having our products in stores like Target, Walmart, and Costco allowed them to make better decisions when it comes to perhaps the most vital aspect of our Primal way of eating: choosing good fats from plant-based oils and eating high-quality ingredients. As Primal Kitchen has grown, I set my sights higher. There were more people we could reach and help make better choices. Arguably, these other people needed our help even more. Like the “plant-based” community full of vegan junk food that’s quite frankly a crime against humanity. Now, I could have left well alone and nixed the Cheez Sauce before it even got off the ground out of ideological purity. But customers were asking us for this product, and I knew that we could make a better alternative to cheese sauces, one that didn’t include soy, industrial seed oils, or pea protein. I knew we could make a no dairy sauce that mimicked cheddar cheese that was made of high-quality ingredients. I care and want everyone to eat better. That’s why I write posts explaining how to do a vegan diet right. That’s why I entertain questions from vegan and vegetarian readers. It’s why we made No Dairy Queso-Style Dip and No Dairy Alfredo Sauce and now, No Dairy Cheddar Cheez-Style Sauce. If you compare our Cheez Sauce to other leading brands, ours is clearly superior. Our Cheez Sauce is made of carrot puree, avocado oil, celery, nutritional yeast, a little tapioca starch, sea salt, lemon juice, yeast extract, lactic acid, and water. We took care to make sure everything was above board and high quality without compromising taste. You could make this in your kitchen, just like you could make any of our other mayos, dressings, sauces, or condiments. And although many of my fellow Primal cheese enthusiasts probably won’t buy this, it is incredibly delicious. Trust me on that. |
