Prince Rilian
From Chicken Soup for the Soul: What I Learned from the Cat
By Lynetta L. Smith

To bathe a cat takes brute force, perseverance, courage of conviction — and a cat. The last ingredient is usually hardest to come by.
~Stephen Baker

I couldn't help but spoil him. Who wouldn't adore this little bundle of cuddly cuteness? He was my little prince, named after Prince Rilian in The Chronicles of Narnia. By day he slept placidly in my sweater pocket as I typed away at my keyboard, emerging occasionally to pounce on my cursor. By night he chased dust balls, scampered about, and sharpened his feline hunting skills. After a few sleepless nights, I decided to give him his own room.

I supplied him with food, water, bed, toys, and scratching post in the downstairs bathroom. Each morning I would feed and pet him as he purred and rubbed against my legs. Our Proactive Bullying Prevention Program, Chicken Soup for the Soul Hallway Heroes, Now Available for Middle School

October is bullying prevention month and we are excited to share with you that Chicken Soup for the Soul has furthered our goal to prevent bullying by expanding our literacy-based proactive bullying prevention program, Chicken Soup for the Soul Hallway Heroes, to now include middle school. We are passionate about this program. There is nothing else like it.

Chicken Soup for the Soul stories have been used informally in classrooms for over 20 years. That make sense because storytelling is a highly effective way to reach students — they absorb the material better while improving literacy and enjoying the process! Now we have developed a rigorous, research-based curriculum to go along with carefully selected Chicken Soup for the Soul stories to: fight bullying, promote values such as tolerance, compassion, respect, and kindness, and improve literacy.

We’re pleased that this entire program is supported by the non-profit Boniuk Foundation, making it affordable as well. We are very proud of this program and excited about working with educators to create young heroes in our schools, on our playgrounds, online, and in our communities. For more information, please visit Chicken Soup for the Soul Hallway Heroes.
