Hi, Rachelle here...
Open-ended, playful, lets-see-where-this-goes, no-product-in-mind art making...you are my spirit animal! 🦄✨
Don't get me wrong, meaningful time spent in drawing and clay studios has gifted me deep insights into proportion, form, color, and composition, and these are endlessly useful to my work as a maker and designer. Thank you, school!
But experimental, open-ended art making holds the key to my heart because it can be pure, freeing, and honest.
And one thing I've learned over the years is that it's also the key to creating with our littlest makers.
It’s developmentally appropriate for toddlers, preschoolers, and young children because it meets them where they are as sensory explorers.
Oh, and there are so many benefits to process art...
Through process art, children…
✔️ gain confidence, independence, and imagination.
✔️ learn about the physical limitations and possibilities of materials.
✔️ develop creative and critical thinking skills.
✔️ realize their own ideas.
✔️ ask questions and experiment.
✔️ embrace experiments as part of the learning process.
In short, if you’re not already dipping your toes into process art, it’s a game changer! Not just for children, but for parents, too.
With process art, you…
☀️ don’t have to hold all the answers.
☀️ save so much time with simple setups .
☀️ won’t get frustrated when your child doesn’t follow the rules of rigid crafts.
☀️ get to witness the development of creative ideas.
When it comes to art, what about it is most important to you and your child?
