Dear Tejas, For many users, it came as a shock… Facebook – a company beloved for its “free” products – had a darker side. The company was actively monitoring its users, collecting their data without their expressed consent, and selling it to the highest bidder. Those of us working in high technology always knew the truth. But for many everyday people, this has only been common knowledge for the past few years. Fortunately, there are reasons to be optimistic. We’re in the early stages of a new model of social media – a decentralized network that protects user data and even allows us to profit from it. It will be the social network of “Web 3.0” — supported by blockchain technology and digital assets. Others have tried to accomplish this, with varying degrees of success.
