Baton Rouge plans to allocate more than $25 million to repave and restripe about 50 miles of roads over the next few years under a new program that will come in two phases.

The first will repave 33 miles of roads at an estimated cost of $17.3 million. A second will repave another 17 miles and is expected to cost $8.3 million.

Will this turn out to be a Winn-win deal for shoppers? Aldi will acquire nearly 400 Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarket locations from Southeastern Grocers in a deal set to close near year.

For Aldi, the merger is expected to boost the fast-growing grocery chain’s presence in the South. Winn-Dixie has 22 stores in south Louisiana.

After the deal closes, Aldi will decide which stores will continue to operate under the Winn-Dixie banner and which will be converted to its own brand and format.
