Projects worth $50M+ in pipeline to aid economic recovery

The City of Cockburn is steaming ahead with projects totalling over $50M as it moves to shake off the economic downturn caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

It has also flagged another six ‘shovel ready’ projects valued at $30M+ with the federal government for possible completion within the City’s boundaries. "These projects will commence in the 2020/21 financial year, securing local employment and economic stimulation vital to the district’s recovery through to 2022/23," Acting CEO Daniel Arndt said. Some of the exciting projects include:
  • Port Coogee marina expansion ($5.3M)
  • Beale Park redevelopment ($9.4M)
  • New Hammond Park Sporting Reserve ($7.7M)

Are we a City of cyclists?

With all the gyms and sporting clubs closed due to COVID-19, we are fast becoming a City of cyclists as supported by the 2019 National Cycling Participation Survey. According to the survey, 15.5% of Cockburn residents ride a bicycle in a typical week. Not bad! So where was the most popular spot to ride? Bibra Lake, with its six kilometre smooth pathway around the lake.
