Dear Friend, Welcome back to my Week in Review newsletter. Please remember to follow me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube for regular updates on how I am serving the people of South Carolina! Protecting Abortion Survivors As states such as New York push abortion rights up until the moment of birth and ignore the right to life enshrined in our Declaration of Independence, it has never been more important to nurture a culture of life in America. That’s why I’m championing the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which protects infants who survive an attempted abortion to ensure they receive the same care as any other newborn. I’m committed to setting a federal standard in order to make sure every state protects life. Read more about the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act here. Holding the Securities and Exchange Commission Accountable
As the top Republican on the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, & Urban Affairs, I helped lead a hearing on the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), which is the agency that oversees the part of our financial system that deals with investments and trading, known as capital markets. Instead of upholding the SEC’s mission to protect investors and grow investments, the SEC Chairman Gary Gensler has pushed to regulate every corner of our capital markets. During the hearing, I demanded answers from Chair Gensler on the SEC’s unjustified regulatory agenda and pushed the agency to be more transparent. The U.S. capital markets system is the global gold standard and the envy of the world, empowering entrepreneurs, job creators, and local economics. The SEC should be working to fuel competition, innovation, and economic growth – not stifle it. I am focused on prioritizing policies that open more doors to opportunity and gives every American the chance to climb the economic ladder. Watch my opening statement here. Never Forget This week, our nation remembered the innocent lives lost on the 22nd anniversary of 9/11 at the hands of radical Islamic terrorists. Tragically, the Biden administration chose to commemorate the day by putting a price on American lives by advancing an agreement to send a $6 billion ransom to Iran, the world’s largest state sponsor of terror. While the Biden administration risks Americans lives, sending payouts to terrorist regimes, I pray our nation never forgets the sacrifice of our first responders and fallen heroes. Spilling the #SCSweetTea on Greer High As someone who grew up mired in poverty, learning financial basics was key to unlocking a better life. Greer High recently opened its own student run credit union, giving young people the opportunity to gain valuable life skills, such as managing budgets and bank accounts as well as learning about loans and personal financing. I’m thankful that Greer High’s mission to teach students financial literacy is empowering them to climb the economic ladder and equipping South Carolina's next generation of leaders to succeed. Watch our video highlighting Greer High here! Sincerely, |
