Hi all,
This is Christine Linnell, social media manager for The Advocate and equalpride, stepping in for Alex Cooper to bring you LGBTQ+ news highlights from Tuesday to Friday. Alex will be back each Monday to start off the week.
π° Today brings a mix of concerning headlines, moving tributes, and small but important victories. The Trump administration is rolling back abuse protections for trans people in ICE custody and the UN is pushing right-wing talking points about gender dysphoria β but there's new hope for the Presidentβs Emergency Program for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) amid ongoing budget cuts, and the city of Boston is honoring a trans woman whose death helped inspire the Transgender Day of Remembrance.
π―οΈ To add inspiration and courage to your week, we've uncovered a clip of the late poet Andrea Gibson performing two of their works for The Advocate in 2018. "If I had my way, I would write only love poems," they said. "But unfortunately, the world can't handle only love poems right now."
Until next time,
Christine Linnell
