Good morning and thanks for joining us. Here are some of today's top headlines.
Decades in the making: The U.S. House will vote on a bill to allow thousands of former Louisiana first responders, teachers, and state and local government workers who move on to private-sector jobs to benefit from the money that they pay into Social Security. Mark Ballard has the details.
Former cop charged: A former New Orleans police officer has been federally indicted for allegedly lying to collect unemployment benefits, falsifying records to secure a loan meant for low-income homebuyers and "double dipping" on dozens of hours of police security detail pay. James Finn has the story.
Bridges out: A stretch of Highway 90 near the Mississippi state line has been closed since 2022 because of the poor condition of a series of bridges across the Pearl River. As Bob Warren reports, there is a growing chorus of voices asking to change that.
