Dear Friend,
I am writing to you with an urgent request that you use your voice today to help us protect public media.
Reports indicate that lawmakers will very soon be asked to claw back congressionally authorized federal funding for public media using a seldom-used legislative tool called rescission. This would be a devastating development for our country and our communities. At risk is the independent, non-commercial public service provided by NPR, PBS, KQED and the more than 1500 public television and radio stations across the country.
Annual federal funding directed through the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) provides the essential foundation that enables the entire public media system to deliver trusted news, educational resources, and emergency information when communities need it most. Losing this federal funding will make the country less informed and less safe during emergencies, and our youngest and most vulnerable children will lose free educational programming and resources.
This is one of the most serious threats public media has ever faced. If the White House’s rescission proposal is approved by both the House and Senate, this action would take away funds already approved to support the system. And, unlike most federal legislation, which needs support from two-thirds of Congress to pass, only a simple majority from the House and Senate is needed to approve this measure.
We’re at a critical juncture and we need you to let your lawmakers know today what public media means to you and your community. Sign up for updates from Protect My Public Media today to find out how to stand up for public media and for your community. |

Thank you for your support and your belief in the essential value of our public service.
Respectfully, |
