Res Artis Meeting Kyoto, Japan – Registration is open!

Registration for the next Res Artis Meeting in Kyoto is now open! The conference, Creative Encounters: Reimagining Residencies, will be hosted by Kyoto City and Kyoto Art Center in cooperation with the Agency of Cultural Affairs from February 6-8, 2019.

This 3-day meeting will address the evolution of arts residency models and rapid expansion of the field. We will compare traditional ‘time and space’ models with new residency typologies that reflect our changing social economy. Nomadic, start-up, virtual and Airbnb residencies will all be explored. The meeting will pose questions about the progression of the field using examples in Japan and internationally. How can we evaluate these new models? How can artists residencies remain socially engaged and respond to artists’ needs? How are these innovative new models funded?

These key themes of the meeting will be reflected in Kyoto, a unique city where traditional and contemporary arts co-exist. Like artists in residence encountering different places for the first time, participants will experience the rich culture of Kyoto by way of excursions, city walks and tea ceremonies that will encourage further dialogue and networking.

Early bird registration ends on November 15.

Secure your spot and sign up for the meeting now!

Would you like to host the next
Res Artis Meeting?

The heart of the network are our face-to-face meetings. They provide opportunities for our members to meet, discuss, and learn first-hand about residencies surrounding the host location and topical issues in the international arts residencies field.

These meetings are organised in partnership with a Res Artis member, a local residency space, or other organisation. Our meetings vary greatly in scale from as small as 30 to as large as 300 participants. Res Artis meetings can focus on a particular theme, issue, profile or geographic region. If you are interested in hosting a Res Artis meeting, please fill in the Res Artis Meeting proposal here and send to office@resartis.org

On the Move presents: Mobility Information Points

On the Move presents Mobility Information Points (MIP), information centres and/or websites in several European countries, and one in the USA, who aim to tackle administrative challenges that artists and cultural professionals can face when working across borders. Relevant issues can be around visas, social security, taxation, customs etc.

MIP are usually key players at national and European levels who advocate – together with other networks and organisations – for better conditions for artists and cultural professionals working internationally.

UNESCO – Global Survey
on Status of the Artist

UNESCO is launching a global survey on policies and measures taken around the world to support the economic and social rights of artists.

It is coming at a critical time when artists and creators around the world have reiterated calls for stronger rights, fairer remuneration, copyright reform, legislation to give creators a fair deal from global companies, especially those providing a platform for user-generated content (UGC).

As reported in UNESCO’s 2018 Global Report 2018 Re|Shaping Cultural Policies, artist’s employment and social status continues to be precarious, with low access to social security, pensions and other welfare provisions.

Much awaited by artists and cultural professionals, the survey’s findings should serve to inform policy decision makers and send an empowering message to the global community– one that allows future generations of creators to make a living from their work.

Deadline: 23 November 2018
