Why is enrollment declining in many Utah school districts? |
|
| | The Utah State Board of Education released data showing enrollment is going down in Utah public schools. Several factors seem to be playing a role including declining birth rates, housing costs, gentrification and rising availability of school choice beyond neighborhood schools. By the numbers: The annual count revealed only 299 more students enrolled in public school statewide. 12% of Utah students are enrolled in charter schools. There are 140 operational charter schools in the state. | U.S. District Court Judge Michael Liburdi ruled in a temporary restraining order that amateur Arizona ballot drop box watchers must stay 75 feet away from voters and cannot talk to, photograph or record someone within 75 feet of the voting station. They are also not allowed to openly carry firearms or wear visible body armor within 250 feet of the drop box. Liburdi said it was important to balance the rights of poll watchers with voters rights and ability to vote without intimidation. Learn more about the incident here.
