Public school leaders blast bills backed by Jeff Landry

BY JESSICA WILLIAMS | Capitol News Bureau Editor

Public schools slam ESAs: Louisiana public school leaders have begun slamming bills that would send public education dollars to private schools, Patrick Wall reports. Parish superintendents, school boards and others have opposed the bills supported by the state schools chief and Gov. Jeff Landry.

Immigration: Under a bill that advanced this week, Louisiana would enter a fight Texas has waged against the federal government over border security, Meghan Friedmann reports. The bill would let state and local police arrest people who cross the border illegally.

Supreme Court: The state Senate has agreed to remap the state Supreme Court districts in a fashion favored by Gov. Jeff Landry and Attorney General Liz Murrill, Tyler Bridges reports. The new map would create a second Black-majority court district.
