Note from the Associate Director

Symposium lookback and a preview of things to come

By Rebecca Hendren

Last week we held our inaugural ACDIS Symposium: Outpatient CDI in the intimate setting of a suburban Chicago hotel. The hotel was surrounded by a beautiful golf course, where the first golden colors of autumn were beginning to emerge on the trees, and the setting made us feel somewhat cut off from the rest of the world as we spent two days discussing the new frontier in CDI.

To keep the learning going—and to extend it to those who couldn’t attend the program because it was so popular that we ran out of space—we are offering a special online version of the ACDIS Symposium called the Outpatient CDI Workshop. We will share as many of the sessions from the event as possible, as well as offering some innovative networking events.

Membership Update

Meet a Member articles share members’ stories, advice, and help

The ACDIS community is a close-knit group—sharing stories, offering help and advice. One of the many things the ACDIS team loves doing is hearing members’ stories and disseminating them to the larger ACDIS membership. Sometimes this takes the form of an interview on a specific topic for the CDI Journal; other times, it takes the form of a “Meet a Member” article.

Conference update: Help the ACDIS Advisory Board plan for the 2018 national conference!

The call for speaker applications closed this past Monday and the Conference Committee will begin its deliberations this week. But while we’re busy planning the 2018 ACDIS National Conference, the ACDIS Advisory Board wants to hear your ideas on its panel session discussion.

CDI focus areas expanded, but have salaries increased accordingly?

In 2016, the majority of CDI professionals earned between $70,000 and $79,000. With all the shifts in CDI focus areas, however, did salary earnings increase as well?

Local chapter update: KY/IN Chapters raffle off ACDIS memberships, conference seat

ACDIS local chapters come in all shapes and sizes—from coffee shop meet-ups, to all-day events with multiple speakers. Recently, two large local chapters—Kentucky and Indiana—joined forces for a comprehensive full-day event.

Product Spotlight

New from the authors of the best-selling CDI Pocket Guide comes the first definitive reference guide for outpatient CDI.

The Outpatient CDI Pocket Guide: Focusing on HCCs makes capturing the most important information for your outpatients (and inpatients) a matter of understanding certain basic principles. Once you do, HCCs will be a breeze (relatively speaking).

Authors Richard Pinson and Cynthia Tang clarify the chief considerations in outpatient reimbursement, documentation, and coding guidelines, and explain how HCCs affect both providers and insurers. With this guide, you’ll learn where to spend your energy—and where not to.
