Hats in the ring: Broome and James in the race for Baton Rouge mayor

The race for Baton Rouge's next mayor, which seemed to be running in neutral, officially revved up Wednesday, as incumbent Sharon Weston Broome and former state lawmaker Ted James both put their name to paper as candidates in the Nov. 5 election.

One remaining question: Will anyone else join the Democrats as contestants in the contest?

The agenda for Thursday’s regular meeting of the East Baton Rouge Parish School Board includes an item to consider again picking a superintendent. However, a vote is not expected as the district races toward a deadline to fill the position. Board Vice President Patrick Martin V said Tuesday may be the day for a final vote.
