Out of committees but not out of the spotlight On Thursday, the House voted to strip Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) of her committee assignments, with 11 Republicans joining a unanimous Democratic caucus in supporting the measure.
Greene's colleagues were unmoved by her non-apology statement, but hey -- at least she admitted that the 9/11 terrorist attacks were real. CNN's Jake Tapper was similarly unpersuaded by Greene's attempt to retcon her own comments. And like most trending stories, Twitter had a field day.
She might be out of her committees but she won't yield the spotlight so easily. Greene mocked Congress as "morons" for "giving someone like me more free time," and delivered a bonkers press conference to an eager media audience on Friday. Not to be overshadowed, Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) hopped on Fox News to offer a truly bizarre description of that press conference.
Greene even sent out a conspiracy-laden fundraising email that hit inboxes while the House was voting.
Meanwhile, former Rep. Steve King (R-IA) whined that it was unfair that House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) cut him loose for his white supremacist remarks but defended Greene.
Elections have consequences
Vice President Kamala Harris used her constitutionally-granted tiebreaking power for the first time this week, casting her vote to clear the path for President Joe Biden's Covid relief bill and allow it to be debated and passed with a simple majority vote.
In a speech Friday, Biden made it clear that while he was willing to negotiate with Republicans on the Covid bill, he was willing to plow ahead without them if necessary. "I’m going to act, and I’m going to act fast," he said.
Paralyzed Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) fought back tears as she offered emotional testimony from the House floor on Wednesday night, describing how she felt “paralyzed” after receiving death threats targeting both her and her family and her shock watching the Capitol riot unfold on January 6.
Dominion defamed Dominion Voting Systems’ legal counsel blasted letters to a number of pro-Trump public figures and social media sites on Thursday, demanding they preserve evidence that could lead to possible litigation for defamation, including Fox News, Newsmax TV, One America News (OAN), former President Trump, Jeanine Pirro, Maria Bartiromo, Lou Dobbs, Sean Hannity, Dan Bongino, and MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell.
