Ramesh's passion for art was evident at a very early age. He was born into a business family and thus business was the obvious choice of profession. So he graduated in Commerce. However mid way in his college days, the Art bug caught up with him and that changed the entire course of his life. He has experimented with various mediums like Oils, Pastels, Acrylics but finally came home to the spontaneity and wonderful effects of his Beloved medium- Watercolour.
Technically, his paintings are rooted in the Impressionistic Realism as he depicts people, places, seasons and times of the day as they actually appear. Like all the old masters and contemporary Greats of this genre, it is light which is of paramount importance in his work. There is a dreamy idealistic quality to his substantial body of work that is intimately linked to his superb handling of light. However his mastery is typically rooted in two main elements- his impeccable drawing skills coupled with his dexterity with the technical aspects of the medium which give him the freedom to take on any daunting composition in Watercolour. He has travelled all over India capturing the country's diverse population and landscape in his exquisite paintings. He knows his subjects well and we can feel his empathy for elevating mundane objects to sublime talismans of sensorial pleasure. Be it a door at high noon, a bicycle in a back alley bathed in a shaft of light, street scenes by twilight, nights in Varanasi, an old man's face etched by the passage of many years, blasted by sun; or a rickshaw in the late afternoon - whatever the time and place, we are left with an indelible memory of permanence in a fleeting transient moment as light and shadow dance over his subjects which had captured his soul.
Ramesh works as a full time artist in Erode, India. He has participated in several national and international exhibitions and has received awards and honourable mentions for his watercolour paintings.
