Rates unchanged for outsourced coders amid fierce industry competition


Coders working for outsourced coding companies probably haven’t received a salary increase in quite a while. That’s according to DecisionHealth’s 2018 Home Health Coders’ Salary Survey, which drew 322 respondents.

 

Seven children die after virus in skilled nursing and rehab facility


Seven children have died from adenovirus at the Wanaque Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Haskell, New Jersey.

 

According to CNN, the health department was notified of the illness at the facility on October 9, and letters were sent to parents October 19. The children affected were medically fragile and have severely compromised immune system. There are more patients who are currently sick with the virus.

 

 

JAMA addresses issues with elder abuse screening


In editorials in this week’s issue of JAMA, authors discussed the need for more research in developing better screening tools for discovering instances of elder abuse.

As of October 1, 2018, the Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) Value-Based Purchasing Program (VBP) rewards SNFs with incentive payments for the quality of care they deliver to their Medicare beneficiaries- with particular incentives for reducing hospital readmissions. To avoid negative payment adjustments, facilities must have practical strategies in place to meet the program’s requirements.

Hislop III, PhD, Managing Partner and CEO of H2 Healthcare, LLC, will review requirements of the SNF VBP and help providers implement strategies to meet the SNF 30-day all-cause readmission measure.
