A very special 150th anniversary in 2016. To help celebrate we are hosting a Beatrix Potter interpretation exhibition at Dalegarth and hosting our own Railway Tea Party with special guest Peter Rabbit.

Joining us on the day we will have the National Trust with their 50 things to do activities and childrens artist Mark Bardsley in the marquee. Downstairs in the main café area there will be tea and cakes for sale to celebrate the anniversary of Beatrix Potter. Plus, Peter Rabbit will be out and about for meet and greet at intervals during the day! Museum Update

Synolda slumbers for now but will be steaming about Ravenglass regularly during the summer holidays giving mini rides so come on and get up close and personal with the star of the museum’s collection. There’ll also be opportunities to try your strength and pull levers in the old signal box and outdoor displays of the museum’s historic rolling stock at Ravenglass station. Our museum is also open along with a sneak preview of what’s in store for the new extended museum opening in 2017.

Engine Feature - River Mite

River Mite is owned by the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway Preservation Society, and first entered service in 1967. Built by Clarkson’s of York using components from River Esk’s steam tender, the engine made history when it was delivered to Ravenglass by traction engine.

River Mite attracted a great deal of publicity when new, her distinctive Indian Red Livery from the old Furness Railway sets her apart from similiar River Esk features. You will still spot her travelling up and down the line today as she is one of our regular steam engines in service!
