A Russian company whose top executive was under FBI investigation paid millions of dollars to a Clinton-connected consulting firm to lobby U.S. regulatory agencies for the Russians, who would go on to acquire 20 percent of American uranium.

$15-Hour Advocate Suspended Amid Staff-Affair Rumors

A top figure in the Service Employees International Union who led the Fight for $15 minimum-wage campaign was suspended after complaints from staffers about his conduct toward women. Complaints about Scott Courtney's office affairs had been an open secret among women in the high-profile campaign.

How Robert Mueller Tried To Entrap Me

Civil liberties attorney Harvey Silverglate writes that Robert Mueller, as a federal prosecutor in Boston, sent a man wearing a wire to entrap Silverglate into suborning perjury on behalf of a client he was defending. Silverglate didn't fall for the ruse, which evidently arose from a malicious tip Mueller had received. "This experience made me realize that Mueller was capable of believing, at least preliminarily, any tale of criminal wrongdoing and acting upon it," Silverglate writes, "despite the palpable bad character and obviously questionable motivations of his informants and witnesses."

Navy Hospital Ship Sent to Puerto Rico Being Barely Used

The U.S. Navy sent a floating hospital to Puerto Rico following the devastation of Hurricane Maria. Yet the ship—staffed with roughly 800 personnel and 250 beds—has treated only about 150 since arriving Oct. 3 because few people knew about it. It costs about $180,000 daily to operate the ship.

Olympic Gymnast Alleges Abuse by Team Doctor

Olympic gold-medal-winning gymnast McKayla Maroney claims she was sexually assaulted multiple times by the former doctor for the U.S. national team. According to her statement, the abuse started when she was 13 years old and continued for at least four years when she stopped competing in 2013. She joins several athletes accusing Dr. Larry Nasser of abuse.
